EU: Recognise the rights of nature

Aurora is the Swedish representative in a European citizens’ initiative that aims to have the rights of nature recognized in EU legislation.

In the midst of a planetary emergency, our legal systems need to fundamentally change. Recognizing the rights of nature is one way to make our legal systems more ecocentric, just, and adapted to our planetary reality.

The citizens’ initiative brings together organizations and people from various EU countries who all want the EU’s legal system to treat nature and everyone living on this planet with empathy and respect. If we succeed, the rights of nature could be recognized in EU legislation. Read more about the initiative here.
